A well-laid patio gives you a solid, level space to actually use your garden. Getting the base and falls right is what separates a patio that lasts from one that cracks and puddles within a year.
We clear all topsoil and vegetation first, since organic material left underneath causes settlement later. Slabs are then fully bedded on mortar or screed — never just “spot bedded” on blobs of mortar, which leaves voids that crack under load — with a slight fall built in so water runs off rather than pooling, and joints pointed for a neat, weatherproof finish.
